That project is called DecodeDC and it’s a podcast and blog where she tries to dig through the jargon and double-speak to determine what’s really going on in and around Capitol Hill. Mark Perzel talks with Andrea Seabrook about her decision to leave NPR and to begin anew in the online world of podcasts and blogs.

News organizations are supposed to provide their audiences with journalism that is not only timely, but fair and accurate as well. But many media outlets, including NPR, often face skepticism about their reporting. News should be factual, reporters should get the details right. Mistakes are made, and sometimes some people may feel a story is biased or inaccurate.

President Trump has signed a revised executive order, once again barring travel to the United States from six majority-Muslim countries and suspending the U.S. refugee program. It's similar to the president's January order that was blocked by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. But this latest order leaves Iraq off the list of barred countries. The White House cites more cooperation with the Iraqi government in vetting people who apply for U.S. visas. The latest order also specifically states that it does not apply to legal permanent U.S. residents or current visa holders. The new order goes into effect on March 16 and the travel ban is set to last 90 days. The suspension of the refugee program lasts 120 days. This annotation features the text of the new executive order along with context and analysis from NPR journalists. Loading...

President Trump's pick for the Supreme Court is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. It is Day 3 of hearings on Judge Neil Gorsuch's nomination. If confirmed, Gorsuch would fill the high court seat left vacant in February 2016, after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch, 49, is currently a federal appeals court judge in Denver. His selection fulfilled an early campaign promise of Trump's to nominate a solidly conservative judge with a record of strictly interpreting the U.S. Constitution. Senators are expected to question him on a variety of social issues and legal doctrine, including his skepticism of the power of federal agencies.

The Republican health care bill under consideration in the House of Representatives would change health coverage for a lot of people. It would no longer require that Americans buy health insurance, for instance, and it would eliminate current subsidies, replacing them with a fixed refundable tax credit. To help Americans understand where Congress stands on the debate over this legislation, NPR and Member stations around the country have compiled a database of Congressional members’ positions on the bill.
